So we have just arrived back from exhibiting the layout at the Faversham Model Railway Show (Sept 2019) and what a fabulous time we all had. Lots of layouts,  very  enthusiastic children and adults  viewing and asking questions , plus we were looked after right royally, what more could you ask for.

A fabulously well organised and enthusiastic club which showed in the exhibition.

We had a fabulous weekend. We were accommodated in a lovely remote cottage, walking distance from the piece of water that divides Mainland from the Isle Of Sheppy, all just perfect for us and just 10 minutes drive from the exhibition venue.

Lots of fabulous layouts on show, quite a few of them being N gauge, which made a nice change.

The show was quite busy and we got to doing a lot of chatting about Railways and life in general.

The icing on the cake for us was when the announcement came through that "Ambleton Vale" had won the Publics BEST IN SHOW award. Very chuffed we are

Next up for us is the...

It has been quite a while since our last post but that's not because things haven't been happening, its more to do with not having time to fit everything in LOl

We have had a fabulous 2019 so far exhibition wise. We have been to some great shows, met with some fabulous people, answered hundreds of questions, given away hundreds of badges and played an awful lot of trains LOl

Of course every time we come back from a show/exhibition there is always work on the layout to do. Sometimes just wear & Tear and sometimes to alter things, trying to make the layout work more efficiently  for us and the public

Before we ever laid a single piece of track or made our first building we visited, amongst others, The Warley show at the NEC and also TINGS (The International N Gauge Show ) in Leamington Spar. Now guess what we are lucky enough to be exhibiting our layout at both of theses premier events in 2020.   Hopefully we will see a few of you on our future travels. Thank you Ray & Anna x

Well we had a fabulous time at the Manchester MRC Exhibition. A very high quality of layouts on offer but only 3 N gauge. The days were incredibly busy and with a lot of children, which of course is what the world of Model railways needs. There was a vote for the visitors to pick the layout they liked the best (Best In Show) and that went to Black Lion Crossing a fabulous OO gauge layout .....Guess who came second? and with only six votes in it .......... Thats right it was "Ambleton Vale"   A great honour for us and we won a voucher to spend at Loco Shed in Manchester

Thats it now for this year. Its been a fabulous first year for us, exhibiting at 4 shows. Only two of those had a voting system for best in show and we came 2nd in one and first in the other, not a bad start to our exhibition life :-)

We have a few modifications to make before we start exhibiting next year on 11th - 2th January at Orpington MRC Exhibition.  Maybe we will see you there

A very Merry Christmas form

I’m not sure being away from our layout “Ambleton Vale” for a few days is really a good thing. As we couldn’t fiddle with the layout, instead the mind took over and started to think of ways we could add more interest to the setup but keeping it simple. Now we know this is nothing new but we have decided to go with a soundscape or two. We don’t want an overall sound running for 6 or 7 hours at an exhibition, that would be annoying to everyone but something that comes and goes and is position specific. Sort of sound puddles perhaps one over the Horse race course and another that takes in the cattle market and station. Most of our engines already have onboard sound.
I spent yesterday researching all the ways it could be done, some very simple and some a bit more complicated. I found 2 or 3 model railway specific sound modules plus a system that looked very simple and ideal for us but once I’d watched a couple of video reviews thought better of it.
Now our philosophy at Amblet...

When Anna and myself aren't building/exhibiting our model railway "Ambleton Vale" this is what we do. Here we are playing at Royston folk club last night. This photo got put up by someone this morning and was captioned beautifully by Mr Chris Nevard (Model Rail Magazine etc) Made us laugh  ;-) especially as we do always mention our n gauge railway at gigs. Sometimes cheers and sometimes jeers LOl ;-)x

We had a fabulous day at Ambleton Vale's photo shoot for its up and coming appearance in "Model Rail" magazine. Its always good to meet up again with that legend of model railway building and ace photographer Mr Chris Nevard

We are now looking forward to the layouts first exhibition in July 2018 at Basildon MRC Exhibition. Hope to see you there

Well the answer is Ambleton Vale is just about finished and ready for its first exhibition in Frinton-On-Sea in July 2018. Before that though we are looking forward to welcoming Chris Nevard over to our Essex home, Chris will be taking photographs for the layouts possible inclusion in a future issue of Model Rail magazine. Of course we are very excited about this, you're never to old to get excited LOl ;-)

Well its a scary thing to have to admit to but…….. we think, that just maybe, “Ambleton Vale” our n gauge exhibition model railway layout, is very close to being finished…… There Ive said it Lol

We know theres always going to be a bit of pimping and pruning and a few more things to add but basically its done.  Our lovely friend Louisa is working away on the 6 metres of under layout curtaining that we require. So thats something we don’t have to worry about. Phew! ;-)

The next thing for the pair of us to do is to hirer the local village hall for a few hours, one day in the very near future and get the whole thing up, bolted together and road tested. Of course we have been trying to test things as much as possible as we’ve gone along but its not been all together with lighting rig etc since we first laid the track, quite a few months ago.

Its one of the downsides of building a reasonably large exhibition layout whilst living in a very small house Lol. We’ve had to work on each of the 4 l...
